Artificial intelligence is everywhere. Over the last few years, the Internet has been flooded with article after article on what AI can do for your business, and with good reason: Even in its relative infancy, AI is already changing the game in almost everyone. aspects of operations, from marketing. , in computer science, in accounting.
It’s not just a passing fad, either. A PwC report found that 67% of executives see the future potential of AI to automate processes and optimize business efficiency. This same analysis found that AI is projected to increase world GDP by 14% (or $ 15.7 trillion) by 2030.
It is clear that AI has the ability to offer companies a significant competitive advantage, if deployed correctly. “While many AI deployments and machine learning fail, in most cases it’s less of a problem with real technology and more about the environment around it,” Harat Doddi, CEO of Datatron, told ZDNet . Like everyone else, my company Jotform is exploring how we can better use AI to improve our business. To do this, we follow a formula that I use whenever I commit to making a new effort. It’s only three steps, but it’s as close to a sure guide to success as I think it is.

The only way to ensure that you don’t achieve your biggest goals is to never set them. The bigger the sleep, the more resistance you will probably encounter along the way. In my case, my current goal is to transform Jotform into an AI-driven company. This will not be a minor transition; it will be a long way to find out what solutions will work for us and how to implement them. Still, I think it’s worth it, and more importantly, I think we’ll make it.

Create a roadmap
Now that you’ve set a goal, it’s time to figure out how to achieve it. This stage can be daunting, but keep in mind that nothing worth completing in a single day has ever been completed.
At first it is not necessary to plan all the steps on the map, but you need to have a basic understanding of the potential paths and what will be needed to follow them. What resources do you need and how do you get them?
For us, I know that our AI roadmap will require considerable research and training. How Forbes Note, any company that wants to make the transition needs to lay a lot of groundwork: some of this means taking concrete steps, such as migrating data to cloud storage and making sure the data is structured. The other part is understanding the capabilities and limitations of AI, which includes understanding our AI-driven goals and having a clear view of implementation, scale, and growth. A study of Harvard Business Review found that when it comes to AI, “very ambitious moon features are less likely to succeed than” low fruit “projects that improve business processes.” We need to be careful to plan for what is really possible, rather than being carried away by exaggeration.
The transition from having a dream to drawing a roadmap can be a turning point for many businesses. If our hope was to replace customer service with chatbots (which it is not), we would have a problem, because it is not currently a practical use for AI.
Even after charting your course, you need to plan to be flexible. As Jeremy Bloom put it, “your journey will start at point A, but point B will not be linear: there is often no straight line between the two.”
A bumpy road, however, is no reason to give up. One of the projects we have been working on for years is the classification of forms. We’ve tried many different strategies, but we still need to figure out how to put them into practice. But we are still trying, because we are sure that there is the right approach; we just have to find it.

You have a dream and you know how to get there. Congratulations! Now it’s time to roll up your sleeves and get to work.
Hard work is more than putting your nose in the spring (although it’s certainly part of it). It’s also about improving your knowledge and understanding of a particular topic and spending the resources you need to make that growth happen.
At Jotform, we are launching our roadmap. We’ve incorporated a consultant who has helped major companies, from Apple to Adobe, implement AI. Our data team is already practicing applying their new knowledge, working on projects ranging from sorting users by sectors to capturing spammers. We’ve also done a week-long piracy for the entire company, giving all departments a chance to think about how AI can improve their operations.
These are incremental steps, but they are all crucial. No doubt, we will encounter setbacks and obstacles, but it is good: the more we challenge ourselves, the more we will understand and the more we will grow.
