College football spring games 2023: Schedule, dates, TV, and more to know

If you thought college football was headed for a big, long hiatus after National Signing Day on Feb. 1 came and went, you couldn’t be more wrong.

The fact is, things are about to pick up again, with spring football just around the corner. That means your favorite team is about to hit the field again, coaches will get an early look at who will be back in the fall, and some high-profile position battles may even be decided, though this kinds of things are more. likely to be decided during preseason camp.

Perhaps the most important purpose of spring football is player development, whether it’s helping established players prepare to take the next step or preparing younger players for bigger roles.

Either way, it’s fun to watch and a way to whet your appetite for football next summer.

Here’s everything you need to know about spring football.

What are the main stories?

You’re in luck, because FOX Sports College Football Writer Bryan Fischer has covered the key storylines of the spring. Here’s some of what he had to say about interesting coaches making their first appearances with new teams:

“One of the biggest job exchanges that raised some eyebrows was Wisconsin booting Luke Fickell Cincinnati. Already a cap hit in getting the only head coach to guide a Group 5 team to the playoffs, the Badgers also know they got someone with deep ten grand roots that can help elevate the program back to a regular conference contender.

“Further west in the Big Ten, we’ll also see Matt Rhule readjust to the college game a Nebraska after his brief time in charge of the Carolina Panthers. The Cornhuskers have already changed the roster and brought in an influx of new players, many of whom will hope to use this set of practices to move up the depth chart before even more reinforcements arrive in the fall. Rhule has been a master at turning things around after previous stops at temple i Baylorbut in both places, things got off to a slow start, which the Huskers will hope isn’t the case given the way things have gone on the field in recent years.”

When do spring practices start? And when are the spring games held?

This depends on which school you are talking about – they are all different! While many top schools typically start spring practices in mid-March, some start much earlier. Most schools typically hold their spring games about two weeks after practices begin, with their spring game usually (but not always) serving as the last of the 15 practices assigned.
