Grief-stricken husband of teacher killed in Texas school massacre dies of heart attack

The grieving husband of a fourth-grader killed in the school massacre in Uvalde, Texas, died of a heart attack just two days after the shooting, the family said Thursday.

Joe Garcia died in the Robb Elementary School shooting that killed 19 children and two teachers, including his 24-year-old wife, Irma Garcia, his nephew said on Twitter.

“EXTREMELY heartbreaking and I come with deep sorrow to say that my Aunt Irma’s husband, Joe Garcia, has died from the pain,” the nephew said.

“I’m really speechless about how we all feel. PRAY FOR OUR FAMILY, God have mercy on us, that’s not easy.”

“The pain doesn’t stop,” he added minutes later.

Relatives confirmed to Fox26 that the cause of death was a heart attack.

Irma Garcia, 46, taught alongside Eva Mireles, who was also shot dead by 18-year-old Salvador Ramos in the shooting in Uvalde, near the U.S. border with Mexico.

Teachers reportedly died trying to protect the children from the shooter.

Irma’s school profile said she enjoyed having a barbecue with her husband and listening to music.

The Garcias leave four children behind.
