Paris Saint-Germain’s bid to sign Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech appeared to have hit a snag on Wednesday when the January transfer window closed without an official announcement from the clubs.

Shortly after the midnight deadline, PSG said they had loaned goalkeeper Keylor Navas to Nottingham Forest until the end of the season, but the expected arrival, also on loan, of Ziyech was not known.

According to L’Equipe newspaper, both clubs reached an agreement but Ziyech’s signing was not immediately validated by the French league because Chelsea submitted some documents too late.

PSG are counting on Ziyech to add some creativity in midfield ahead of a crucial period for the French champions.

PSG have been struggling since the start of the new year, with two defeats in their last four league games.

Ziyech showed his creative and technical abilities for Morocco at last year’s World Cup, helping the team reach the semi-finals alongside compatriot Achraf Hakimi, who he would have been reunited with at PSG. But he hasn’t enjoyed the same kind of form in the Premier League in recent seasons and is no longer a regular starter at Stamford Bridge.

PSG, whose ambition is still to win the Champions League for the first time this year, have just a few weeks to rediscover their attacking spark: they host Bayern in the first leg of the last 16 of the League of Champions in February. . 14.

“We have to find some consistency in our games, at the moment we are playing with too much fluctuation in quality, there are difficult moments in a season, we have to turn things around,” PSG coach Christophe Galtier said on Tuesday .
