Kyle Busch detained last month in Mexico for gun possession


Kyle Busch said he forgot he had a gun in his bag while traveling in Mexico last month and was detained by Mexican authorities.

The Public Ministry of the Attorney General of the Republic in Quintana Roo issued a press release on Friday regarding the arrest of a Nevada native on January 27 after a 380-caliber handgun was found in his luggage as he passed through security the airport before planning to board a private jet.

The news release identified the defendant as Kyle Thomas B. The Cancun Sun identified him as Busch, the two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion.

According to the press release, on January 29 a judge issued a sentence of 3.5 years in prison and a fine of approximately $1,100. Busch was obviously allowed out of the country as he finished third in the Clash on Sunday in Los Angeles.

Busch released a statement Monday night on Twitter:

NASCAR said Busch reported the incident and would not face any discipline.
