One of the most beautiful things about betting on the NFL (or any sport) is that every play matters, a lesson that was reinforced on Thanksgiving Day in the Giants-Cowboys game.
Richie James’ one-yard touchdown pass reception from Daniel Jones with eight seconds left had big ramifications for the players. That’s because the point spread closed at Cowboys -10 on FOX Bet. For those who might be new to betting, that means Cowboys backers bet on Dallas to win by more than 10 points.
It was all coming down to aces for Cowboys bettors, as it looked like they were going to enjoy some pumpkin pie and a couple of extra bucks in their wallets. But then it happened.
Dallas came close to covering that spread late in the fourth quarter when they had the ball and led 28-13. The Cowboys missed a first down, and then their kicker Brett Maher missed a field goal. All the players knew what was coming next.
New York started to move the ball against a soft Dallas defense. To make matters worse, Micah Parsons was flagged for unnecessary harshness. After another penalty, the Giants got the ball at the one yard line, and the rest was history as James went on to score.
After the extra point, the final score read Giants 20, Cowboys 28, which helped New York punters cash in their tickets.
To paraphrase the famous broadcaster Al Michaels, “these works are important to some.”
What’s the best thing you can do if you were one of those punters who took a hit on Thanksgiving? Shake it and hope you get the break on your next bet.
