Now You Can Use Licensed Music on Facebook Videos and Still Monetize Them

Meta has introduced Music Revenue Sharing on Facebook. The new monetization feature makes it easier for creators to monetize videos that use licensed music from popular artists.

Hailed by Meta as a “first-of-its-kind” feature within the music industry, Music Revenue Sharing enables creators to generate an entirely new revenue model.

A powerful tool for small businesses

Facebook has long been a powerful tool for small businesses. Creating and posting videos to the social media giant offers a host of benefits for small businesses, including brand exposure, message delivery and traction at a low cost.

Creators can now earn additional revenue from video content that uses licensed music from popular and up-and-coming artists including Tove Lo, Post Malone, Leah Kate, Bicep and more.

In a blog about the launch of the new monetization feature, Meta wrote:

“It’s the first of its kind on this scale, benefiting creators, our partners, musicians and fans.”

Rights manager

The new feature is powered by Rights Manager. Rights Manager helps creators protect their copyrighted content on Facebook and Instagram and increase their revenue potential. It provides information about how the content is used. Music revenue sharing is also made possible by Meta’s partnerships in the music industry

How it works

Creators must be eligible for in-stream ads on their content and meet Meta monetization eligibility standards. Videos must be at least 60 seconds long and include a visual and an audio component. Licensed music cannot be your primary focus. Featured songs must be covered in the Licensed Music Library, which includes all songs eligible for Music Revenue Sharing.

Creators will receive a 20% revenue share for eligible videos. A share will go to the holders of the music rights and a part to Meta.

Music revenue sharing began to be implemented on July 25. Creators worldwide can use the feature.

Eligible videos will initially earn revenue from in-stream ads served in the US. However, Meta will be expanding this to the entire world where music is available on Facebook in the coming months.
