Week 15 of NFL The season brings us a full slate of games, including three on Saturday. This means Colin Cowherd has some choices to make.
On Fridays “The Flock,” shared who he likes this weekend in his “Blazin’ 5,” which includes a pair of road teams upsetting teams with winning records.
Here are Cowherd’s top picks, along with odds and win totals presented by Bet FOX.
Blazin’ 5: Raiders beat Josh McDaniels’ former team, Titans, Colts win as underdogs
Colin Cowherd believes some teams with winning records will fall to teams that are underdogs or losing teams this weekend.
Indianapolis Colts (+3.5) @ Minnesota Vikings 1 p.m. ET (Saturday), NFL Network
Shepherd’s Pick, Score Prediction: Colts +3.5, (Colts win 24-23)
Colin’s thoughts: “[The Colts] they say goodbye and were humiliated in their last game. They love teams that have been embarrassed. They had a lot of time to think about it. The Vikings defense is a disaster. The Colts have been in a lot of tight games — the season, pride is on the line. The Vikings defense is the worst in the league. It’s the worst pass defense in the league. It’s the worst total defense in franchise history. That’s too many points. They play in too many close games.”
Philadelphia Eagles @ Chicago bones (+9) 1 p.m. ET, FOX
Shepherd’s Pick, Score Prediction: Bears +9 (Eagles wins 30-24)
Colin’s thoughts: “[The Bears] bye and all four home defeats this year have been by less than nine points. Since Week 6, Justin Fields has had 60 rushing yards and a touchdown in every game. In fact, since Week 6, it’s been pretty decent. We have seen growth. I think this is a good coaching staff, and that always helps a bye.
“The Eagles are in the second game of a three-game road trip. The Cowboys come close and pull off a dominating win. It’s a classic, natural upset spot.”
New England Patriots @ Las Vegas Raiders 4:05 p.m. ET, FOX
Shepherd’s Pick, Score Prediction: Raiders -1.5 (Raiders win 28-23)
Colin’s thoughts: “Hunter Renfrow returns. This is a big game for Derek Carr and Josh McDaniels. He is a quarterback and is training for his careers. The Raiders are coming off an extra break. They have outscored each of their last four opponents. Did you know that only the Eagles have turned it over less times? They don’t beat themselves up. They just have certain limitations.
“Josh Jacobs leads the NFL in rushing yards. Davante Adams is a beast. Hunter Renfrow is back. The Patriots, who have lost two of three, are 0-6 when they allow 20 or more points. Josh McDaniels, I think knowing this defense, may have some success. The Patriots’ offense since Week 7 has been pathetic. They have 10+ touchdown plays this year, the fewest in the league. They’re also all beat. DeVante Parker, Jakobi Meyers, and Arizona had a backup.”
How the Patriots are slowing down Mac Jones in his second season
Colin Cowherd believes Mac Jones has been messed around by his coaching staff this season.
Tennessee Titans (+3) @ Los Angeles Chargers 4:25 p.m. ET, CBS
Shepherd’s Pick, Score Prediction: Titans +3 (Titans win 24-23)
Colin’s thoughts: “[The Titans] They are actually a very good road team – 4-3 on the year. Ryan Tannehill’s last eight games are much better than Tua’s [Tagovailoa] against this defense. [Joey] La Bosa has left. Derwin James is out. In Ryan Tannehill’s last eight games, he has a passer rating over 100. The Chargers aren’t beating anyone as a favorite. They are a terrible favorite team, always better as a “dog”. Their defense this year hasn’t been good and Justin Herbert has been sacked 18 times in the last month, more than any quarterback in the league since Week 11. They rely on Herbert too much. He has had 45+ pass attempts in three straight games. Don’t be fooled by this defense that Tua owns it. Ryan Tannehill is playing good football.”
Branches of Los Angeles @ Green Bay Packers (-7) 8:15 PM ET (Monday), ESPN/ABC
Shepherd’s Pick, Score Prediction: Packers -7 (Packers win 30-20)
Colin’s thoughts: “[The Packers] rest extra one week 14 bye. Aaron [Rodgers] he’s been great at home this year, folks: 12 touchdowns, a pick and a 104 passer rating. Where they have fought is on the road. Where they have struggled is against physical teams. Neither are the Rams. They [the Packers] they’ve also had over 100 rushing yards in five of their last six games, which means Matt LaFleur finally figured it out. Aaron Rodgers and Aaron Jones: This is your offense. Romeo Doubs is back. Christian Watson has emerged.
“And the Rams are bad. They were winning. Baker Mayfield had a great last game [against the Raiders] and deserves credit. But this year, he completed 58 percent of his throws. The Rams are 1-4 on the road. They don’t have many of their best players.”
