Take a break from your routine this summer and fill your mind with new ideas that will help you run your small business! These are my favorite books right now, which is why they make up my 2022 Small Business Summer Reading List.

Rachel Rodgers’ book is about success in life and business. Her powerful personal story is stimulating and inspiring. She talks about how to create abundance in your life. She provides a way to build the support, confidence, and plan you need to succeed and become the millionaire the world needs you to be.
6. Master Mentors, 30 Transforming Ideas from Our Bigger Minds by Scott Jeffery Miller
If you are a lifelong student looking for practical strategies to reach new heights in your business, Master Mentors it’s for you. I’m a big fan of autobiographies, especially those in which the CEO tells the whole truth. This book is an inspiring and ingenious story of a woman, mother and business leader who reached the top. She is honest about her commitments and what it cost her to succeed. This is a must read for all Boss Chicks!
8. I love how great leaders create organizations that their people never want to leave Clint Pulver
Author Clint Pulver, dubbed Undercover Millennial, shares information from more than 10,000 undercover interviews with employees across the country. It reveals the best ways to identify talent, create a sense of ownership, and develop a successful work culture that employees will love. You will also learn the number one engine of employee rotation and what you need to do to keep your employees. Your people are key to business success, and this book can help you improve your management.
9. Prosperity: Strategies to Turn Uncertainty into Competitive Advantage by Meridith Elliott Powell
Many small business owners are still trying to reinvent themselves or regroup from the pandemic. What I like about this book is that it is based on facts. When I seek help with my business, I want facts. I want ideas that are put to the test. I want information that, at first glance, I see as relevant to me, that makes sense, and that is very feasible.
10. Amplify it; Leading hypergrowth by raising expectations, increasing urgency, and increasing the intensity of Frank Slootman
I often take a side look at Silicon Valley type leadership books, but I liked this one. Author Frank Slootman is a legendary CEO who has led several companies through the IPO process, so he is more than qualified to share those thoughts. It offers very practical tips that address the many issues that most small business leaders will face. I especially liked his advice on how to focus on analysis. Success leaves clues, and this book offers many gems.
11. CEO Excellence: The Six Mindsets That Distinguish the Best Leaders from the Rest of Carolyn Dewar, Scott Keller and Vikram Malhotra
McKinsey & Company senior partners examine some of Fortune 500’s most respected CEOs. The authors show that while the role of CEO is unique to each organization, the best CEOs think and adapt in surprisingly similar ways.
12. Become your own boss in 12 months, reviewed and expanded by Melinda F. Emerson
If you want to make the transition from employee to entrepreneur or create a secondary e-commerce mess, this book is for you. Here is one of Amazon’s reviews.
I bought the first one after meeting Melinda Emerson and attending one of her reinvention classes. The first (edition) did not disappoint, and this is even better. From Emerson’s Essentials to Emerson’s Experience and Action Steps, it’s like being by your side every step of the way. If you follow the tips, listen to the experience and really understand that it is about making sure you are successful, you will be delighted to have bought it, read it and consulted it repeatedly.
