Setting the scene

The 49ers are 5-2 in the wild-card round in the Super Bowl era and 3-0 since 2002.

Rookie third-string quarterback Brock Purdy has done a masterful job thus far leading a talent-laden 49ers offense that includes running backs Christian McCaffreyreceiver Deebo Samueltight end George Kittle and receiver Brandon Aiyuk. Purdy also has one of the best offensive lines in the league protecting him, led by a left tackle Trent Williams.

Heading into the postseason, San Francisco boasts the league’s best defense statistically and has an NFL-best 13th turnover differential.

On the other hand, the Seahawks have reached the postseason for the 10th time in Pete Carroll’s 13-year tenure after a resurgent season, thanks to the quarterback. Geno Smith and a young and opportunistic defense.

Smith finished the regular season with the highest completion percentage in the NFL, connecting on 69.8% of his passes.
