We all need it to drink more water. For humans, there are apps and even smart water bottles to keep us up to date. For our pets, it’s not that easy. We can encourage them to drink more by keeping the water fresh and away from food and garbage, but if we don’t observe all of their movements, it’s hard to make sure they drink enough. And forget about trying to answer a veterinarian by asking how often they drink.
I’ve been testing the Sure Petcare compatible Felaqua Connect water bowl for almost a month now and it has kept me better informed without disturbing my two cats more than I usually do. Keep track of which pet you drank and how many ounces were consumed. Small dogs can also use Felaqua, but it is made for cats, as they tend not to feel as thirsty as dogs, which can cause real problems quickly. We feel dehydrated, but your kitten friend may not.
For Sure Petcare (iOS, Google Play) to keep track of which cat you drink in a multi-pet home, your pets must have a microchip or an RFID tag around their neck. The microchip is standard among veterinarians and can help your pet recover if it gets lost. Without a chip or tag, Felaqua will still send notifications about how much your cats drink, you just won’t know which cat is sticking.
The downside is that you have to set up the hub to use the app – it connects to your router and allows you to access notifications and controls from anywhere in the world. I prefer smart home appliances that don’t need a hub, but this one is small and cute with its cat ears lit up. (You can turn them off or turn them off in the app.) If you get other Sure Petcare products, such as your feeder or door flap, you don’t need to add any more hubs.
Once the concentrator was set up and the water bowl connected, adding each cat was easy. The app will guide you to get them close enough to the bowl so you can scan their tokens. Just assign your name to your respective microchip number.
The rest of the app is simple and informative. The home page shows quick information about each pet, such as the last time they drank. Clicking on your pet’s profile opens up more individual information, such as how many ounces of water they drank that day and what their daily average is (how many drinks a day and the average time spent in the bowl). It also gives you an image of how much water is left in the reservoir. You can scroll back a few days or open a calendar chart. If you also have a Sure Petcare feeder, you can switch between the two pet profile statistics.
