Twitter has begun integrating podcasts into its platform as part of its newly redesigned Spaces tab, meaning audio conversations are now possible.
Twitter is adding podcasts
Since August 25th, the reimagined Spaces tab that includes the addition of podcasts has been visible to a select group of global English-speaking Twitter users on both iOS and Android. The group has been providing Twitter with feedback to improve the new feature, with the popular social media company planning to add more features and fine-tune the new podcast option as they go.
Personalization and group themes
the new Twitter Podcasts Options include the ability to customize hubs to group audio content by specific topics such as music, sports and news, to allow Twitter listeners access to a more personal selection of live and recorded spaces that discuss the topics that interest them.
The new hubs will also feature the most popular podcasts from around the world, thanks to the results of research carried out by Twitter itself. The results revealed that a significant 45% of US Twitter users also listen to podcasts on a monthly basis, so the new hubs will automatically suggest relevant podcasts based on a user’s interactions on Twitter.
Twitter offers an ‘exciting new frontier’
Vox Media’s general manager of audio, Ray Chao, spoke about his excitement for the new podcasts, saying, “Vox Media has a great variety of popular podcasts in many categories, and we’re thrilled that Twitter is expanding its audio capabilities to help more listeners discover them.
“Whether it’s Kara Swisher and Scott Galloway’s ‘Pivot,’ our daily news story teller ‘Today, Explained,’ or ‘Stay tuned with Preet Bharara,’ we’re excited that Twitter is giving podcast users and followers an exciting new frontier “.
Customization of the new podcasts feature
Twitter users can easily customize their podcast experience on the platform simply by giving each podcast they find a click on the associated “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” button.
