Kicking things off in Memphis, the Philadelphia Stars take on the USFL’s newest addition, the Memphis Showboats.
Later Saturday, the defending USFL champion Birmingham Stallions will host the New Jersey Generals.

The second season of the USFL has kicked off on FOX with the Philadelphia Stars taking on the Memphis Showboats.
Going another way!
Channing Stribling got things going for Philly by opening the new season with an interception, ending a promising Memphis drive just minutes into the game.
However, Stribling felt he should have reached the end zone on his interception.
Rowland running into the end zone
Chris Rowland scored the first touchdown of the new season, getting the right end wide open in front of the end zone to run for the easy score and give the Stars an early lead.
Pre-game setup
It was a beautiful day for football in Memphis as the USFL prepared to kick off Season 2.
The “Boats” arrived early, strutting their stuff with confidence ahead of the big game…
… but Channing Stribling and the Stars performed just as well, which is no surprise considering they made it to the championship last season.
The Stars also welcomed a talented new player to the mix this season, former first-round NFL draft pick Corey Coleman.

The starting quarterbacks were let go before Saturday’s season opener. Brady White starts for Memphis while Case Cookus starts for Philadelphia.
