But ahead of the company’s first earnings report since merging in a $43 billion deal as part of Warner Bros. Discovery, it looks like bad news is coming for the popular streaming platform.

According to several sources cited by The WrapWarner Bros. Discovery plans to lay off a staggering 70% of its business, with the expectation that major restructuring and new business direction will take place specifically for HBO Max and Discovery+.

Sources say the restructuring will “result in the destruction of HBO Max,” including massive layoffs and a rumored merger of HBO Max and Discovery+ into a single combined streaming service, which would mean a major cut from original series with script on HBO Max.

The news comes after several Max Exclusive films (released and streaming exclusively on HBO Max) were pulled in recent weeks without any announcement or explanation, including “Moonshot,” “Superintelligence” and “Locked Down.”

This comes alongside the announcement from Warner Bros. that the long-awaited “Batgirl” movie, which was supposed to be released as a Max Original, was scrapped due to what was reported as cost-cutting.

“The decision not to release ‘Batgirl’ reflects the strategic shift in our leadership regarding the DC universe and HBO Max,” a Warner Bros. spokesperson said. in a statement at the time of the announcement.
