Here we come!

Lance Lynn (Chicago White Sox) opened the day with a strikeout, getting his fastball off Canadian Edouard Julien (Minnesota Twins), en route to a 1-2-3 start for Team USA.

In the bottom of the first inning, Mookie Betts (Los Angeles Dodgers) led off with a single against Mitch Bratt — Team Canada’s 19-year-old starting pitcher. Bratt walked the next batter before Nolan Arenado (St. Louis Cardinals) drove in the ensuing two-run single for the USA

Making a statement

Paul Goldschmidt (Cardinals) then drove home after a quick out, putting Team USA up 3-0 right out of the gate.

Bratt issued another walk before JT Realmuto (Philadelphia Phillies) drove in a fourth run.

out of here

Bratt quickly retired from the game after Canada fell into a 4-0 hole in the first inning.

When it rains it pours!

Realmuto was thrown out at home on a fielders’ choice, before Cedric Mullins (Baltimore Orioles) hammered a triple to extend the Americans’ lead.

magic

Mike Trout (Los Angeles Angels) then hit a home run into the night sky to make it a 9-0 game.

Stoppage avoided

Jared Young (Chicago Cubs) got Canada on the board with a solo home run in the top of the second inning.

Not too fast!

Canada’s momentum was stopped short, courtesy of Betts’ acrobatic catch downfield.

Moving

Tim Anderson (White Sox) hit an RBI triple of his own to extend the Americans’ lead in the second inning, 10-1.

Seeing double… digits

Anderson went on to make it 11-1 on Realmuto’s next flyout. Trea Turner (Phillies) then hit the USA’s second home run of the night, making it 12-1 in the bottom of the second inning.

star power

It was another 1-2-3 for Lynn and the Red, White and Blue to start the third inning.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Canadiens brought in a new pitcher, Indigo Diaz, who opened the inning with a flyout.

Lynn ended the night after the fifth inning. He finished the game with six strikeouts, two hits and no walks.
