England 0, United States 0

10′: What could have been

Both teams came out strong. Harry Kane was so close to get England on the board early, but his shot was narrowly blocked by American defender Walker Zimmerman.

17′: The United States scores

Haji Wright almost put the U.S. ahead with that header, but his attempt fell short and things remained scoreless early in the first half.

26′: Warm-up

Soon after, Weston McKennie missed another chance for the USA as the first half continued.

27′: No call

As the contest continued to heat up on the field, the sporting world took note of the lack of yellow cards shown at halftime, specifically when no card was issued for that challenge on USMNT defender Antonee Robinson.

It is worth noting that not a single England player received a yellow card in their first game against Iran.

33′: Off the bar!

Christian Pulisic hit the crossbar with a left-footed shot that was inches away from putting the USA ahead.

43′: The chances keep coming

Once again, Pulisic was able to get a shot from the area, but this time it missed just to the left.

45′ + 1′: Denied!

The first save of the game for the American team came in the dying moments of the first half in stoppage time, when American goalkeeper Matt Turner denied England’s Mason Mount.

So things ended in a deadlock heading into the break.

51′: Taking one for the team

Both teams came out strong in the second half. Tyler Adams set the tone for the U.S. with this big play out of the gate.

53′: No yellow

Once again, England went penalty-free after this clash with USMNT’s Tim Weah.

62′: Adams in action

USMNT captain Adams won a free kick for the U.S. after that drive from Mount as the second half wound down.

83′: A family affair

Giovanni Reyna replaced Weah late in the second half. His participation in Friday’s game marked a milestone within his family, as he took to the field 16 years after his father, Claudio Reyna, played in his last FIFA World Cup.

90′ + 3′: For good measure

Kane made one last attempt for England with a header in the closing moments of Friday’s game but was unable to connect. With that, things ended goalless.

Friday’s game against England was the USMNT’s second in the group stage after a 1-1 draw against wales earlier this week. Elsewhere, favorites to win it all, England earned a draw against the United States after opening the tournament with a dominant 6-2 win over Iran Monday.
